Client story
A 100-year-old book industry company renewed its identity, and measured its emissions
Storia, formerly Kirjavälitys, carried out carbon accounting alongside its rebrand. Wind energy and the supply chain emerged as central themes.
“NGS is an exceptionally competent partner, and collaboration has been seamless. The accounting makes concrete what matters most for the environment.”
Eija Weck, CFO, Storia
Storia (formerly Kirjavälitys) is a Finnish book industry logistics and distribution company with a history stretching back to 1919. The 2024 rebrand brought a new name, but over a century of experience in running distribution chains remained.
Starting point
Storia’s sustainability work started from a practical question: where does emissions actually come from in book distribution? In a distribution operation, transport is an obvious factor, but the overall picture required a more detailed analysis.
Alongside the rebrand, it was natural to incorporate carbon accounting into building the new Storia identity: sustainability is part of what kind of company they want to be.
What was done
NGS calculated Storia’s GHG Protocol carbon accounting Scope 1–3. Two particular perspectives were highlighted in the accounting: a thorough mapping of supply chain emissions and the climate impact of wind energy use.
Wind energy is a meaningful factor for Storia: its share in electricity procurement directly affects Scope 2 emissions and shows how energy choices appear in the final result.
Result
Storia received a clear overall picture of their emissions and concrete information about which factors matter most. In CFO Eija Weck’s words, the accounting makes concrete what matters most for the environment, and directs resources to where they do the most good.
